Soviet Kharkiv considered itself one of the centers of a huge empire. But the situation has changed dramatically — the city found itself on a double periphery between Moscow and Kyiv. Artists from Moscow, Kyiv and Kharkiv presented projects that had not been shown anywhere before, and also provided viewers with the opportunity to determine / through experiment* / the position of the Kharkiv art scene in the coordinate system of contemporary art between the two art metropolises.
During the opening day, and for another week, the voting took place, the results of which were made public during the discussion (and should have been its central theme.) Also, the project participants spoke to the Kharkiv audience with their Artist talks, in which they talked about their independent and collective artistic practices.
The goal of the project was to reveal the presence or absence of a relationship between the location of the author and his/her work, using an experiment in which the viewer would determine the “residence” of the work and its author by means of stickers marked “center” and “periphery” which were handed out at the entrance. The works of all authors at the time of the exhibition opening were not signed. All subsequent days, after the discussion, the projects were already signed, and the results of the experiment were made public.
Голосование посетителей стикерами «центр/периферия» переросло в акт самовыражения / Visitors' voting with “center/periphery” stickers has grown into an act of self-expression:
